Greetings from Trinidad .
We are an interesting little country .

Originally inhabited by Amerindians who evolved into the Caribs .

The solids hit the palm fronds in 1498 when Columbus bumped into us and reputedly named us after the Holy Trinity .

Since then we have been ruled by the Spanish then the English with a fair amount of influence from the French and the Dutch in Tobago.

To add to the cultural pot ,the our colonial forefathers bought Africans , Indians as slaves or indentured labourers and we also have voluntary contributions from Portugal , Madeira , Syria , Lebanon , most of Europe ,USA, Canada , China, Venezuela and the rest of the southern Caribbean .

In recent years our Health Ministry's major accomplishment has been to widen the gene pool by bringing, Cubans , Filipino's & Nigerians and anyone else ever they can persuade to work for less than Trinidad doctors . We now have a Russian forensic pathologist and even have Colombian ladies who are conducting their own breeding initiative in various shady hotels .

In a Country with so many Races and a propensity to party we are now a thoroughly mixed population . We should have no racism due to the "pot calling the kettle black" factor , but unfortunately ignorance abounds here .

The upside of all this is every creed ,race and religion gets a shout and we have 13 public holidays a year so far ,but watch this space as our Politicians will give a holiday to any group who can provide a vote . Cesspit cleaners day ? Rosicrucian's Day ? Communication Specialists.

The Brits bailed out in in 1962 and left us to our own devices and we have been stumbling along in our own little way .
